Adrian was a 2013 Los Angeles Corps Member in South Los Angeles. Currently, Adrian still teaches physics, engineering, and mathematics at Synergy Quantum Academy. He is particularly interested in learning opportunities through STEM fields.
Allison was a 2008 Los Angeles Corps Member. She taught ESL at Hamilton High School and ESL and Drama at Animo Watts Charter High School. She currently works as a manager on the Regional Advocacy team at the California Charter Schools Association. She also serves as a board member and education committee member on the Mid City West Community Council.
Anthony was a 2013 LA Corps Member. He taught 7th grade math at Los Angeles Leadership Academy where he started an ethnic studies leadership elective. Currently, he serves as a school manager for the edtech company, EverFi. When he isn't trying to convince people that math is not the bane of human existence, he enjoys football, poker, and a good dram.
Avery was a 2010 Los Angeles Corps Member. She was a high school Special Education teacher before working for Teach For America as a Recruitment Manager. Currently, Avery attends the University of Southern California where she is working toward a Masters in Public Policy (MPP) focusing on Education policy. She returned to her placement school in 2014, and is the Special Education Coordinator at Billy & Cindy Simon Technology Academy High School.
Carla was a 2013 Los Angeles Corps Member where she was a Special Education Resource Specialist at CCVHS. She then became the Director of Special Education and founding teacher at University Prep Value High School. She hopes that ONE DAY all students with special needs will receive a quality education that is not limited by their disability.
Chinedu Udeh was a 2012 Oklahoma Corps Member where she taught fourth grade and coached girls' basketball. She has also worked as a Corps Member Advisor for the past two years. She currently teaches 4th grade at KIPP Empower Academy.
Crystal was a 2012 Los Angeles Corps Member and a 2014 Sue Lehmann Semi-Finalist. She is currently teaching math at PUC Community Charter Early College High School and is researching about how self-care plays a role in sustaining commitment to social justice work and critical math pedagogy.
Elisha was a 2012 Los Angeles Corps Member. She taught in Los Angeles Charter Schools for 3 years. Now she works with City Year Los Angeles as an Impact Coach. In this position, she works with City Year Corps Members as a resource and instructional coach to insure the quality of their work and unsure they are having the biggest impact on students.
Erika was a 2011 LA Corps Member and a founding teacher at Allicance for College Ready Academy High School #16. Erika taught 9th and 10th grade ELA and facilitated for TFA PD Saturdays. She is also a POSSE volunteer and a Random House published author.
Gwen was a 2009 Los Angels Corps Member. She taught 8th grade English for one year and 9th and 10th grade English for five years. She is currently the assistant principal at Central City Value High School in Rampart Village.
Hazel is the Lead Education Specialist at Kipp Iluminar Academy. Prior to working at Kipp Iluminar, Hazel was a Special Day Class teacher, instructional common core lead, and case manager at Sunrise Elementary in Boyle Heights.Hazel has a Masters Degree from Loyola Marymount University in Special Education, and has been working in the field for 3 years. She is deeply passionate in working with children who need extra love and support, motivating her to ignite the fire in children and families of the future.
Joy was a 2009 Early Childhood Education Corps Member in Los Angeles. Joy has a broad array of teaching experience, ranging from pre kindergarten to 6th grade. Currently, Joy is serving as the Dean of KIPP Philosophers Academy in South LA.
Kari was a 2010 LA CM & taught high school English for 3 years before moving into teacher recruitment & instructional support. She recently earned her M.Ed. in School Leadership & is working with Da Vinci Schools to design & lead a school that will serve primarily homeless & foster youth.
Lauren was a 2011 Los Angeles corps member and is still teaching at her district placement school in Silver Lake. She is the 7th grade science and health teacher in the Environmental Studies Magnet Program. Prior to TFA she taught 3rd grade on the island of American Samoa, was a naturalist at an outdoor school in Sonora, CA, and served as a school-based substitute in her hometown of Arlington, VA. She has her M.Ed from UCLA and also plays in a psychedelic rock band called Send Medicine, so you should check them out!
Lulu was a 2009 Los Angeles Corps Member, and has taught Kindergarten, 4th
grade, 5th grade, and is currently teaching 2nd grade at Aspire Titan Academy in Huntington Park in which she was a founding teacher. She also serves as an Induction Coach for new teachers.
Michelle was a 2009 Los Angeles Corps Member, and has taught 2nd grade in Lincoln Heights for five years. She most recently worked as a Faculty Advisor in the Teacher Education Department at Claremont Graduate Univeristy teaching and preparing multiple-subject credential candidates. She is currently a full-time doctoral student at the School of Educational Studies at Claremont Graduate University.
Reid was a 2012 LA CM. He is still currently teaching high school English at his placement site in the San Fernando Valley. He's also worked both Los Angeles and Phoenix Institute as a Corps Member Adviser
Was a Corps member in 2009. Has worked in education for 6 plus years in public and charter schools as well as for various tutoring comapanies and City Year.
TFA 2006 Los Angeles Alumni - taught all levels of ELA in Los Angeles for 4 years. Currently teaching 11th grade AP Language and Composition and ELD for beginners in Orange County, as well as serving as ELD Coordinator and as Consilting Teacher for the CTIP credentialing program.
Val was a 2012 TFA LA Corps member. She taught middle school and high school English at her placement school and another charter in Richmond, CA. Currently, she works at Green Dot Public Schools in the Human Capital department.
Vanessa was a 2006 Los Angeles Corps Member. She was a secondary special education teacher and program specialist. She is currently consulting with WestEd, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and TimeWise Schools.
